Dr. Chawla graduated from Medical School from University of Alberta and completed his residency in Halifax where he practiced for many years and fondly called it home. He moved out to Ontario to be closer to his brother who also is a physician in London. Him and his family enjoy life in Chatham and are active members in the community with fundraising etc.
He is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, London, Ontario. Dr. Lalit Chawla is the physician lead for the Chatham MedQUEST clinical teaching elective, offered through the Southwestern Ontario Medical Education Network (SWOMEN), Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. Through MedQUEST, Dr. Chawla will support the medical students in their clinical placement opportunities, as well will oversee the career exploration program that aims to provide secondary school students, in rural and regional Southwestern Ontario, with realistic, hands-on experiences in various disciplines of health care, including medicine.
Before Dr. Lalit Chawla became a Physician he was a professional Illusionist (Magician). He incorporated his skills as a magician into the clinical practice of medicine and this concept has been enthusiastically adopted by other health care professionals.
He continues to teach other health care professionals in ‘How to Apply Magic in a Clinical Setting’. He has incorporated this into hospitals and started up magic groups in the rehab environment. He has given numerous workshops all over Canada and is scheduled to give more talks this year at the Canadian National Family Medicine Forum in Quebec. He has other speaking tours lined up in P.E.I., Toronto, and is the Keynote Speaker at the teaching retreat at the Faculty of Medicine Conference in London.
Recently the National Post & The Medical Post have written about him and his work. You can read more about Magic and Medicine if you visit his website magicandmedicine.ca
