Shelly Chruscik was born and raised in Windsor, Ontario. She relocated to Chatham-Kent in 1989 to attend St. Clair College of Applied Arts and Technology, Nursing Program. However, Shelly was placed on the waiting list so she enrolled in the General Secretarial Program and graduated with a certificate in General Secretarial in 1990. Shelly started nursing right after and happily graduated with a Diploma in Health Science, Nursing in 1993.
After graduation Shelly worked at the Chatham Retirement Resort, for 10 years, where she developed a love for seniors. She then moved into acute care at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Surgery, and worked for the Victorian Order of Nurses, in community nursing. In 2003 a full time opportunity presented itself south of the border… a straight day position, at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI. Shelly stayed at Henry Ford Hospital for 10 years, specializing in Pulmonary/General/Surgical Medicine. She advanced from a Staff Nurse, to working in the outpatient department in Bronchoscopy and then became a Lung Transplant Coordinator.
Shelly’s final and most favorite destination at Henry Ford was Pulmonary F2, Unit Educator. As Unit Educator, Shelly thrived in delivering compassionate care to both patients and colleagues, through mentoring and coaching. During those years, Shelly attended the University of Detroit Mercy, where she graduated with honors from the Bachelor of Science, Nursing Program, in 2010.
Shelly loves her profession; her true passion in life is in helping others, making a difference, whether big or small, one patient at a time.
Shelly returned to Canada with her BSN in 2013 and is honored to be working at the Chatham Kent Family Health Team as a Registered Nurse Educator. As a Nurse Educator Shelly works in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to safely and effectively provide chronic disease management, disease prevention and health promotion. Shelly personally specializes in the Smoking Cessation and Medication Therapy Management Programs.
In her spare time, she is a huge animal advocate, helping with animal rescues and has her own personal hobby farm.
