Leanna McCallum grew up in Dresden Ontario and moved away to attend university. Leanna and her husband returned to Chatham-Kent after he was hired with the CK Fire Department in January 2019. Leanna completed a BSc degree with a double major in Medical Cell Biology and Psychology at University of Western in 2010. She then completed the Accelerated BScN program at McMaster University in 2012 and returned to McMaster from 2015-2017 to complete the MSc/PHC-NP program.
After completing her education, she worked full-time as an Emergency Dept RN at Cambridge Memorial Hospital. She ‘’absolutely loved it — each day was different, I was always learning, and there was never a dull moment.”
Working in the Emergency department taught her, she wanted to continue working with all ages and be exposed to a variety of health concerns and patient presentations. Although she loved the pace and acuity of the ER, Leanna became interested in preventative health care and health promotion as a means to prevent hospital burden and improve patient quality of life.
After completing the Nurse Practitioner program, she worked as a Nurse Practitioner in Tavistock and Stratford at STAR Family Health Team, as well as a part-time Nurse Practitioner in the Emergency Dept at Grand River Hospital.
Leanna will be working as the Nurse Practitioner at Dresden and Blenheim site of the CKFHT. She will continue to see patients of all ages and manage both acute and chronic health conditions. Patients can schedule their appointments by contacting the Dresden and Blenheim offices.
