DRESDEN – A $1.2 million healthcare facility, patterned after a new one in Ridgetown, is scheduled for construction here next spring.
The new facility on Tecumseh Street will serve as the Dresden satellite office for the Chatham Kent Family Health Team.
The 6,000-square-foot facility will be jointly owned by the Dresden Community Healthcare Foundation and Thames Valley Engineering of Chatham.
Ron Sturgis of Dresden, spokesperson for the foundation’s steering committee, said the first step is to raise between $500,000 and $600,000 in the community.
“It’s a large amount but we’re certain the community will come through,” he said.
Sturgis said family health teams are an approach to primary health care that brings together different health care providers to coordinate the highest possible quality of care for patients.
The new office will provide space for up to four physicians and related allied professionals.
The Chatham-Kent Family Health Team currently has sites in Chatham, Wallaceburg and Ridgetown with 20 physicians, four nurse practitioners and nine allied health professionals.
