Laura Johnson admits to being surprised that three new doctors who come to Wallaceburg are having a difficult time finding patients.
The doctors were seen as a godsend earlier this year, as Wallaceburg has been under-serviced for doctors for years. But patients have been slow to sign up with the new doctors, says the executive director of the Chatham-Kent Family Health Team.
Dr. Rizwan Muhammad, Dr. Naveed Hassan and Dr. Muhammad Afzal all work at Wallaceburg Family Health Team and in the emergency department at both the Chatham and Sydenham campuses of the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.
The health team is looking to fill a roster of patients for the doctors, but Johnson admits it has been slow so far. It’s probably a matter of getting the word out that the doctors are available, she said.
Johnson said if people are looking for family doctors, they need to go to the McNaughton Avenue facility and sign up and register. There will be a medical application form to fill out.
“The process is a lot easier than a lot of people think it is,” Johnson said.
For residents who live closer to Dresden, Ibrahim is also accepting patients by visiting the Dresden office.
Johnson said Chatham residents are also welcome to sign up with the Wallaceburg and Dresden doctors.
