Dietary Counselling and Education Services


The dietitians at the Chatham-Kent Family Health Team are passionate about food and health. Dietitians are specially trained and regulated by the College of Dietitians of Ontario to provide you with safe and effective nutrition advice based on evidence. They work hard to:

Provide nutrition therapy specific to various acute or chronic conditions
Provide personalized education on disease prevention and healthy living
Common areas of counseling and therapy focus are:

  • Heart disease
  • Pre-diabetes or diabetes management
  • Preparing for a vegan or vegetarian diet
  • Label reading
  • Menu planning
  • General healthy eating for all life stages (from pregnancy to seniors)
  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • High triglycerides
  • Fatty liver disease
  • Anemia or other nutrient deficiencies
  • Food allergies and sensitivities including celiac disease
  • Gastrointestinal disorders including Crohn’s and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
  • Disordered eating habits and weight concerns
  • Mindful eating/ relationship with food

During an initial assessment, the dietitian will:

  • Review your medical history, medications and supplement use to screen for potential impact on nutrition
  • Discuss your eating patterns and explore your relationship with food
  • Identify your personal nutritional needs
  • Create a nutrition care plan that reflects your food preferences and lifestyle considerations to assist you in making realistic and maintainable changes to improve your health or manage an existing health condition

If we do not offer services that you are looking for please talk to your Health Care Provider as our Physicians and Nurse Practitioner’s refer to various specialists within the community of CK as well as those in larger centers.
